Continuing from the idea of “heirs of the kingdom”, chapter 18 deals with the children of the kingdom.  That is, all who would be in the “new” kingdom should be humble as children and be careful of how they treat the least in the new kingdom (church).  He continued to teach them to value one another to always be watchful of their spiritual care.  He also taught and gave authority of the church (the new kingdom) to discipline its members.  But to cement it all together in our relationship with one another, Jesus commanded that we should always have a willing spirit to forgive those who have sinned against us.
