Have you ever felt completely unqualified or under-resourced for what God is asking you to do? In our latest study through Matthew 14, we encounter a monumental shift in Christβs earthly ministry. Following the tragic martyrdom of John the Baptist and the national rejection by Israel’s religious elite, Jesus steps away from the crowds to intentionally train His closest disciples for the future.
What follows are two of the most spectacular miracles in the New Testament: the feeding of the 5,000 and Jesus walking on the Sea of Galilee. Both events were profound object lessons. When Jesus commanded His disciples to feed a massive crowd with only five loaves and two fish, He was exposing their natural limitations to teach them a spiritual truth. We are called to provide the world with the spiritual Bread of Life (the Word of God), but we can only do so by resting entirely on Christβs superabundant provision. Later that night, as Peter stepped out onto the raging waters, the disciples learned that their Master wasn’t just a great prophet or a messianic kingβHe is the divine Son of God, the ultimate Lord over the laws of physics and the storms of life.
When we take our eyes off the wind and the waves and place our absolute faith in His divine nature, the impossible becomes possible. Dive into this rich chapter with us and discover how the Savior trains His followers for impactful ministry!
