This section explains how the video guide feature uses YouTube captions, how guides are created, and the choices available to you.
Our video guides use YouTube API Services and YouTube’s embedded players. A guide lets you select a main point, Scripture passage, key moment, or matching transcript excerpt and start the existing video at that point. This feature does not download or rehost YouTube video or audio files.
Only authorized site administrators connect a Google account to retrieve captions for videos that account has permission to manage. Navigating the guide does not require visitors to sign in to Google or grant the website access to a Google account.
Google handles the account sign-in and permission process. We do not collect Google account passwords. The plugin stores encrypted access and refresh tokens on the website’s server. Its YouTube Data API requests are limited to listing and downloading captions; it does not upload, edit, or delete YouTube content.
To create a guide, the website sends timestamped caption text and the public lesson title and lesson context to OpenAI. Editor-provided instructions may also be included when a guide is revised. This processing creates chapter titles, Scripture references, key moments, and timestamps for navigating the lesson.
The OpenAI request uses store:false to disable storage of the response for later API retrieval. This setting does not promise that OpenAI retains no data under its service or security policies. Google account passwords and authorization tokens are not included in the guide-generation request.
Timed caption snapshots retrieved through the YouTube API are stored in WordPress to support transcript search. The plugin schedules refreshes before those snapshots reach 30 days, stops serving snapshots after 29 days without a refresh, and schedules removal of expired API caption bodies. These background tasks depend on WordPress scheduled jobs. Captions that an editor uploads or pastes into the website are stored separately until replaced or removed.
Generated guide titles, references, timestamps, source information, and processing details are saved in WordPress. Disconnecting the Google account or removing the plugin does not automatically delete saved guides or editor-imported captions.
Transcript search loads saved caption text for the current lesson and matches your search words in your browser. Search words are not sent to YouTube or OpenAI by this feature. Saved transcript text is available only to visitors who can access the eligible published lesson and its published guide. Automatic captions may contain transcription errors.
You can revoke the website’s Google account access through your Google Account permissions. The plugin’s Disconnect control removes its saved access and refresh tokens from this website; it does not revoke the permission in your Google Account.
Revoking Google access does not automatically remove information already saved on this website. Requests to access or delete information retained by the website may be submitted to support@letstalkscripture.org. Deleting information from this website does not delete videos or other content from YouTube.
Use of YouTube API Services and embedded videos is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service. Information about Google’s data practices is available in the Google Privacy Policy.

We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. Changes will become effective immediately upon posting to this page.
